Flashing The Man In Ithica

I can’t say exactly what’s going on here, but there’s got to be some sort of “stick it to the man” sentiment behind posing nude outside the courthouse in front of a police cruiser:

I appreciate a little of thise kind of miscreancy in our world. I am a promoter of creative non-violent protestation and this is (as may not be exactly creative but gutsy) a wonderful example of questioning the governments almost prudish moralistic law on nudity. And this is coming from a mid-western follower of Jesus the Christ.

Although this may seem protest-like, please remember that New York is a “Top-Free State” meaning women can be topless in public anywhere men can be, so long as it isn’t for any commercial benefit.

Ah. Facts. You need facts.

NYS technically allows women to go top-free. In practice they harass you with arrests. Last summer saw the arrest of several women in Moravia NY, with subsequent court nonsense. As usual the government morons had to drop charges. I think they should sue the Moravia police dept. There look to be more events coming this summer.

There was almost a top-free situation at the Boilermaker 15K run in July 2004 but it was clear that the Utica police were total and complete assholes so the attempt was aborted.

Anyway.

This photo goes back to summer 2002. That’s Ilonka on the left. I forget the other girl’s name. I have higher-res versions of this, as well as other top-free ites around the state. These two were in fact, arrested. And released several hours later because the police couldn’t find an exuse to hold them. They commited no crime. They should have sued. I took a photo of Ilonka top-free on the Ithaca Commons in Sept. 2002 IIRC. The site-owner should contact me.

I’m all for protesting, but doing it in front of a court house naked, crime or not, isn’t the smartest idea, unless you want to get locked up.

He is absolutly right.

DOGSPM you should know something before opining. This was not a protest. Per NYS law, Ilonka Wloch and _Sereanda Lourdes were topfree in Ithaca. Some harpies complained and so the cops hauled them in. After some time, the cops realized they had to let them go. This is when they were set free.
